Mindful Monday

When we began the morning on Monday we reviewed last weeks work and went over the answers which were incorrect. After that students have time during the week to correct their answers, writings, and any missed assignments for a 5% credit.

English, Spelling & Grammar, and Math were all before P.E. which they have 45 minutes to do their physical activity. When they return from P.E., we settle down into critical thinking and creative writing and them follow that by some reading which they can chose EPIC or their library books.

<p class="has-black-color has-text-color" value="<amp-fit-text layout="fixed-height" min-font-size="6" max-font-size="72" height="80">Once they are finished they are off to lunch and then we have our Mindful Monday lesson. In this lesson we went over how we feel when we are focused, zoned out, or upset and different things we can do to help bring us back to the green zone (which we call the focused and ready to learn). Traveling Tuesday

On Traveling Tuesday we went to the State of Ohio – better known as the Buckeye State, which we learned is because a tree nut looks like a deer’s eyes. For information on the State of Ohio we went to Kids National Geographic and we had a great time learning about the Cardinal as the state bird and the State flag has 17 stars on it because it became the 17th State.

Next came, our geography lesson which we learned the difference between continents and oceans. English, spelling & grammar, math and P.E. came next. After P.E. we went on to history where we learned about how farmers used a Shaduf to water their fields in the ancient Egyptian times. It is basically a swing with at basket that goes around so the water can spray out over the fields. Finally, we made it to Library reading time and lunch. After lunch the student can spend an hour completing any assignments they were not able to finish and ask more in-depth questions about any of the work they did not understand.

Finishing up our day and week

While it was a successful two days of our new timed schedule our 7th grader felt rushed to complete work. We talked about the fact she would be able to have extra time at the end of the day to complete work and throughout the week. Our goal with our students is to help them become accountable for their assignments throughout the week and not get overwhelmed with working for 2 hours on one subject. While there will be times when the work will get lengthy as they progress in their grades, they will be prepared to stay on task and complete things by the end of the week.
